Cody & Christy Kerr

Cody started swing dancing in 2009 after discovering that he could take lessons without a partner. He began with Lindy Hop, Balboa and Charleston, then Collegiate Shag. Over time, he has dabbled in other dance forms but has maintained his passion for vintage swing dances. Cody teaches and DJs for Strictly Swing Spokane on Thursday evenings, but by day, he's a real estate agent. If you want to see what life is like at his day job, visit him at

Christy began trying various dance styles in Anchorage, Alaska in 2004. Her life was changed when she saw a couple dancing Lindy Hop. Upon seeing Lindy's famous "swivels," she pointed at the couple and said, "I want to learn THAT!" It didn't take long for her to fall in love with swing dancing. In the following years in Alaska, she coordinated classes, hosted a monthly swing dance, and started a performance team. Christy moved to Kentucky to return to school for a degree in Education Studies in 2009, and she met her future husband, Cody, at a swing dance in 2010.

Cody and Christy were married in 2012 and became dance partners for life. Their love for dancing has led them to dance at events throughout the world and they also competed on the HepCats swing dance performance and competition team in Lexington, KY. This troop of swingin' cats performed and competed in events throughout the mid-west and also competed at a national event two years in a row, taking 2nd place in both years.

They moved to Spokane, WA in the fall of 2014 and were encouraged to start teaching lessons. They started Strictly Swing Spokane in Spring 2015 and were overwhelmed by the incredible support they received from the community. Cody and Christy love dancing together and sharing their joy for the dance with friends and strangers alike. They are excited to share their passion for swing dancing and hope to see YOU on the dance floor!

Stacey Brown

Stacey began swing dancing in 2015, showing up with some friends to the very first series of lessons taught at Strictly Swing in Spokane.  She has always enjoyed big band era music, and had been wanting to learn how to swing dance for quite some time.  One friend joined in on just one more series of lessons, but Stacey continued on.  She didn’t realize it at the time, but she was hooked!  She has been consistently attending Thursday Evening Swing since then and has grown to love the dance and the community.  She enjoys all forms of vintage swing, but especially Lindy Hop and Balboa.  She also enjoys DJing for dances and being a member of the Swingset Hooligans – the Strictly Swing performance team.  For her, dancing has been a great way to meet new people and develop friendships and to have a lot of fun!

Amanda Darr

Amanda has been dancing all types of social dances and some solo since 2001. She began dancing in college and was hooked. She danced for various teams over the years. It seemed like she could never get enough dance so she attended many workshops and entered some competitions, placing in a handful. She loves how when social dancing you experience something that cannot be replicated anywhere else in life and that is how you connect to your partner, the music and the floor and sometimes an audience simultaneously. She wants to share this passion with everyone! So please, when you see her, ask her to dance!

Joel & Jackie Plys

Joel Plys began his swing dance career in the summer of 1998 on a date in Chicago. He learned very quickly from countless workshops and non-stop dancing and brought his skills to Cleveland, OH, where he taught full-time for 4 years (1999-2002). He moved to San Diego in 2002 and taught all over the world with Alison Scola. In 2012, Joel refocused his energies into teaching locally, building a community of social dancers, students, performers and teachers.

Joel has a high quality, energetic approach to the dance that makes every lesson with him and any partner a blast! As a regular teacher at major events all over the world, his down to earth, enthusiastic attitude is contagious. He has taught in 32 US states (and counting) and 12 countries including: Australia, Austria, Canada, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Scotland, and Sweden.

He has a full knowledge of various styles from years of study that he shares in his instruction of Balboa, Lindy, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, Jazz Movement, and Pre-Swing dances (Texas Tommy, One Step, etc).

To 'preserve' a dance, you must understand the technique and characteristic fundamentals of that dance. For a dance to 'evolve,' you must be open to everyone adding creative elements to that dance. Joel encourages students to study and be open to 'differences' so that they can make the dance their own.

He embodies these qualities in his instruction and dancing while remembering the true reason we dance - for FUN!

Jackie Plys took her first swing dance lessons her senior year of high school. After learning, she wasn't able to dance much until moving to San Diego in 2006, where she would get involved in the swing dance community there and it would change her entire life!

Jackie immersed herself into the social dance scene... going out Lindy Hopping almost every night. She also started to DJ for local  and regional swing dance events.

In 2012, Jackie partnered up with Joel Plys and began assisting him with classes. They would end up forming Swing Dancing San Diego, which offered group classes, private lessons, social dances, teacher training, and a performance group called the Hang Ten Hoppers.

Her "old soul," passion for swing music, friendliness, patience, and big hugs has made her a fast favorite as a teacher of all the swing era dances!

Robyn Reeves

Beginning her first dance instruction at Strictly Swing Spokane in 2015, Robyn was hooked after her very first lesson. Being a vintage enthusiast since a little girl, she was elated to discover that there was such a thing as vintage swing! She already loved Big Band music and dancing to her favorite jam was just the ticket to begin a lifelong passion. She instantly felt at home. If you ask Robyn what her favorite dance is, she will enthusiastically say BALBOA!!! But she will also tell you that she loves all the vintage styles and to please ask her to dance.

Outside of dance, Robyn is a mother to two boys, the owner and operator of a local residential cleaning service, and she also loves the outdoors and creating artistically.

In dance she most enjoys performing and teaching because both are special ways to share the love of vintage dance with others and to stretch and grow herself. She has also danced, performed and participated in many workshops. Her advice is: "Keep your learning shoes on! Always."

Gena Warner

Gena began her dancing journey in 2013 in Riverside, California. She went to her first dance and saw a couple doing Lindy Hop and was instantly hooked. It wasn't long before she began teaching beginning classes and DJing at that very same venue. She has danced and attended workshops all over Southern and Northern California, New Zealand, Montana, and more recently Washington and Idaho. She has a passion for all of the swing dance styles, but Lindy Hop and Balboa are her favorite. She loves to share her passion and knowledge with fellow dancers and muggles (non-dancers) whenever she has the opportunity. After moving to Idaho in 2017, she continues to teach/DJ and is an active member of the Spokane, Washington dance community. She is excited to see what the future holds and is looking forward to dancing for the rest of her life!
